US Flags How To
Thank you so much for volunteering to be a part of this fundraiser!! Many hands make light work, and because of your help, this has become one of the biggest fundraisers for our Band!
This fundraiser really is a privilege for our Band program. Many of our subscribers have been a part of this program for many years. They pay their money year after year not only to support our Band program but also to be patriotic. The community identifies our Band with this fundraiser, and we have a responsibility to represent our program well! Please do not allow your flags to touch the ground while you are dropping off or picking up flags. It may sound like a small thing, but the eyes of our neighbors are always on us! Thank you!!
You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers
-
You have signed up to deliver U.S. Flags to neighbors that have paid $52 per year to have a flag placed in their front yard 5 times per year. Those five days in 23 – 24 are as follows:
· Patriot’s Day (a.k.a. 9/11) – Monday, September 11, 2023
· Veteran’s Day – Saturday, November 11, 2023
· President’s Day – Monday, February 19, 2024
· Memorial Day – Monday, May 27, 2024
· Independence Day – Thursday, July 4, 2024
-
Officially, our commitment to our subscribers says that we will have the flag delivered the evening before the holiday, and the flag will be picked up at any time on the day following the holiday. However, we sometimes have a little bit of flexibility on the delivery. When a holiday takes place on a Monday, we have the option to deliver the flags as early as Friday afternoon. That means, for the 23 – 24 program year, you may deliver your flags as follows:
· Patriot’s Day – Friday Afternoon thru Sunday Evening (Pick Up Tuesday)
· Veteran’s Day – Friday Afternoon thru Friday Evening (***Pick Up Tuesday***)
· President’s Day – Friday Afternoon thru Sunday Evening (Pick Up Tuesday)
· Memorial Day – Friday Afternoon thru Sunday Evening (Pick Up Tuesday)
· Independence Day – Wednesday Afternoon thru Wednesday Evening (Pick Up Friday)
-
You will receive an email during the week prior to the holiday that contains the address of each subscriber for your route. Sometimes, there will be a new subscriber added, and you will need to pick up an additional flag from the flag shed prior to the holiday.
-
You have the option to store your flags at home, or at the flag shed at the high school. (The benefit in storing your flags at home, is that you do not have to carve out time to come to the flag shed and pick-up/drop-off your flags every holiday. You can also have a little more flexibility to deliver and pick up your flags on your schedule.

If you able, it is helpful for you to find a substitute to cover your route. If you are unable to find a substitute on your own, please contact Steven Elliott at 512-293-8257 or usflags@cedarparkbands.org. There are 75 volunteer drivers that deliver more than 1,100 flags, so finding your own substitute is VERY helpful if you are unable to cover your route…however, we will always make sure it gets covered if you are unavailable.

A piece of metal rebar is hammered into the ground, usually around 8 inches more or less as the Texas soil will allow. (Use this as an opportunity to release any anger or frustrations accumulated in our hectic lives by pounding a piece of steel into the ground!) Please try to make sure that the rebar is as straight up-and-down as possible, so that the flag flies properly. The location should be in the front yard, approximately 3 feet from the driveway and 3 feet from the sidewalk in the part of the yard closest to the entrance of the house. Once the rebar is in place, put the pvc pipe with the flag pole over the rebar and unfurl the flag. That’s it!
Please make sure that the flag is placed securely and straight up-and-down. Our neighbors our very serious about respecting the flag, as we should be! Texas weather is often windy, and sometimes it even rains! We don’t want the flag to fall over in adverse conditions, so please take a little extra effort to ensure that we are showing the utmost respect to our flag during the entire holiday.

For your entertainment and education, Mr. Yee has recorded an instructional video on the process. It is worth your time, as Mr. Yee may have missed his true calling as an infomercial personality.

Easy…just roll up the flag and place a rubber band at the top and the bottom of the flag. In the unlikely event that it rains and the flag is wet when you pick it up after a holiday, please allow it to dry before rolling it up…especially if you store your flags in the shed.
-
We have extra flag parts…zip ties, o-rings, gold balls, rebar and flags available anytime.
